SOC 2173 - Sociology of Religion 3 Credit Hours
Course Description: This course will examine religion from the sociological perspectives (structural functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism), including the study of practices, social structures, historical backgrounds, development, universal themes, and the roles of religion in society. It will examine the functions religion serves in societies, the distinction between magic and religion, and the relationship between religion and other major social institutions, such as the economy and politics.
Prerequisites: ENGL 0203, adequate placement score, or by meeting determined placement measures
