EMS 1324 - Assessment and Pharmacology 4 Credit Hours
Course Description: This course introduces the fundamentals of patient assessment, including scene assessment , monitoring devices and airway management. The student will form a field impression based on the scene and patient assessment findings. This includes developing a list of differential diagnoses through clinical reasoning to modify the assessment and formulate a treatment plan. This course introduces the fundamental principles of pharmacology and medication administration and is required for paramedic certification. Topics include medical terminology, pharmacological concepts, weights, measures, drug calculations, vascular access for fluids, and medication administration. Upon completion, students can accurately calculate drug dosages, properly administer medications, and demonstrate general knowledge of pharmacology: Including labs and clinical/field shifts
Prerequisites: EMS 1014 Emergency Medical Technology I and EMS 1015 Emergency Medical Technology II OR National Emergency Medical Technician (NREMT) EMT licensure.
Pre or Corequisites: EMS 2103 Anatomy and Physiology for EMS
Additional Information: This course satisfies the computer proficiency requirement.
