PTA 1213 - PT Procedures I 3 Credit Hours
Course Description: The student will apply therapeutic modalities and have knowledge of pain mechanisms to improve a patient’s functional independence. The student will be able to safely and competently demonstrate the use of thermal modalities, ultrasound, traction, continuous passive motion devices, dynamic splinting and massage to treat a patient’s conditions. The students will recognize that all treatments provided by a physical therapist assistant are within the plan of care established by the physical therapist and are performed under the general supervision of a physical therapist in the state of Oklahoma. The student will also learn and apply documentation skills for the above modalities. The student must demonstrate proficiency/competency of the above modalities with testing and oral/practical examinations.
Prerequisites: PTA 1013 Intro to Physical Therapy PTA 1023 Dynamic Human Motion
Additional Information: This course satisfies the computer proficiency requirement.
