PTA 2112 - Professional Seminar in Physical Therapy


2 Credit Hours

Course Description:
This capstone course serves as the culminating experience for Physical Therapist Assistant students, integrating professional development, ethical decision-making, healthcare administration, and evidence-informed practice principles. Students will synthesize knowledge from their entire academic program while developing advanced professional skills in leadership, mentoring, quality improvement, and awareness of social determinants of health and healthcare disparities. During this course, students will participate in intraprofessional and interprofessional collaboration activities. The course emphasizes preparation for professional practice through self-reflection, collaboration, career planning, community engagement, and demonstration of entry-level competency across all domains of PTA practice. Through case-based learning, professional development activities, mentoring experiences, and a comprehensive capstone project, students will demonstrate readiness for entry-level PTA practice. The course covers healthcare ethics, legal responsibilities, supervision requirements, reimbursement systems, quality improvement methodologies, and evidence-based practice integration. Students will engage in self-assessment activities, participate in community service projects, participate with advocacy at the state and federal level, and mentor junior students while demonstrating professional competence and communication skills. Advanced topics include healthcare administration, conflict resolution, artificial intelligence applications, and regulatory compliance across various practice settings.

Prerequisites:
All PTA and BIO courses must be completed and a PTA program GPA of 2.5 or better
