PTA 1023 - Musculoskeletal System and Kinesiology 3 Credit Hours
Course Description: This comprehensive course provides Physical Therapist Assistant students with essential knowledge and practical skills in human kinesiology, biomechanics, and functional movement analysis. Students will develop expertise in musculoskeletal anatomy, joint mechanics, and movement patterns while gaining hands-on experience in data collection techniques including goniometry, manual muscle testing, and functional assessments. The course emphasizes both theoretical understanding and practical application of biomechanical principles in physical therapy practice.
Through a combination of didactic instruction, laboratory experiences, and hands-on practice sessions, students will master the anatomical foundations of human movement, learn to assess range of motion and muscle strength, and develop competency in functional movement analysis. The course integrates cognitive learning with psychomotor skill development and emphasizes professional behaviors essential for effective patient care. Students will work extensively with laboratory partners to practice palpation, measurement techniques, and assessment procedures while maintaining high standards of professional conduct and professional sensitivity.
