The Associate in Arts in Child Development provides students with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to understand how young children grow, learn, and thrive. Students explore child development theories and research, developmentally appropriate practice, family engagement, cultural responsiveness, and inclusive learning environments. Coursework emphasizes applied learning through observation, curriculum planning, guiding behavior, and understanding the physical, cognitive, and social-emotional needs of children from birth through age eight. This degree aligns with NAEYC professional standards and prepares students for further study in early childhood education, child development, family studies, and related fields at a four-year institution.
